Current Obsessions | Mini Handbags

Images Copyright of Zara, M&S, H&M and Mango.

I’m bag obsessed.

It’s true, ask any of my friends and they’ll tell you how they’ll usually find me in a corner fawning over a small, leather bag whenever we go shopping.

I think it’s because I’m a relatively simple dresser. I’ll try new styles but I know what I like and what I feel comfortable in. That’s where a bag comes in – with the right one I can express my personality and be a bit more adventurous. Sequins, rhinestone straps, bright yellow? Why the heck not. A bold bag can upgrade a simple pair of jeans and a shirt (a go-to outfit of mine) in a second.

So with that said, I thought I’d share my current obsessions – miniature bags – with you. While a miniature bag might not be the most practical, you can’t deny they’re cute!

You can find my bag picks here:

Crossover bag with floral straps, Zara, £29.99

Faux Leather crossover bag, M&S, £15

Shoulder bag, H&M, £29.99

Buckle leather bag, Mango, £35.99

Until next time!

That time I got stuck in a dress!

Yes that’s right! But before I get into the gory details, I just want to explain a little bit about my absence from this blog (I can’t believe this is my first post of 2015 – shameful!).

So I got a job as a copywriter, which is great as it allows me to do what I love but because of this I have let things slide with the blog. As to be honest, after writing all day I literally feel as thought I have no more words left to give!

But when this funny little thing happened to me, I found myself wanting to share it with you guys, reciting the story back to myself as though it were a blog post – so hopefully I haven’t forgotten anything…

The first thing you need to know is that it’s wedding season at the moment, I have two family weddings in the space of a week to go to. So I’ve been searching, and searching, and searching for not one but two dresses to wear. After ordering many dresses and being disappointed, I saw two dresses online that I liked the look of (one more than the other) and quickly ordered them. The dresses came two days before I was due to go on holiday (Menorca – it was lovely!) and I quickly tried them on. Neither dress was right, but the second made me look like little bo peep, something a little reminiscent of …

I couldn’t stop laughing at how stupid I looked, so quickly ran around the house showing each family member. After getting dragged into a conversation about the holiday, I went to my room to take the dress off.

What I should’ve told you first is that when I put the dress on the zip didn’t seem right, it looked uneven but went up without too much of a fuss so I didn’t think too much of it – until it came to take the dress off that is. The zip wouldn’t move, not even one teeny-bit, it just kept getting to the same spot and jamming – great!

Unfazed, I went to my mum for assistance (she can pretty much fix anything). She tried and tried moving that zip up and down but it wouldn’t budge. OK, so what now?

My mum had a light bulb moment and suggested that we try soap, so we gave that a go being careful not to stain the dress in the process. No matter how much soap we put on that zip it didn’t move one inch. It wanted a war!

I’m not going to lie, at this point I was starting to get really frustrated. It was a hot day, I’d just finished work for my holiday and this dress palarva was seriously killing my vibe! Maybe a change of perspective was what I needed.

So I went to my dad, who after looking at me as though I was crazy attempted to jiggle the zip up and down before giving up and getting back to shouting at Serena Williams on the TV (Wimbledon-season). So that was a fail. What about my older brother? He gave me the same bizarre stare before doing the same thing and giving up – what is it with these men?

At this point, I was really start to loose it. Don’t get me wrong, at first I found it hilarious but after an hour and a half of being in this dress I began to feel as though this was going to be my life. I pictured myself boarding the plane in the dress, going to the pool in the dress, diving into the clear blue water in the dress – that’s it I thought, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

So after some more time spent flailing around in the dress, I called the company up. Yes that’s right, can you imagine how embarrassing that phone call was? After trying to get my situation across to them on the phone (I really don’t think they understood the severity of my distress but whatever) they gave me permission to cut myself out of the dress. I had to practically stop myself from squealing down the phone – that’ll teach this monstrosity of a dress from trying to hold me hostage!!!

I spun the dress around and started to cut the material closest to the zip (realising that it had gotten seriously caught in the zip). After a few minutes, I was able to wriggle free! And then … FREEDOM! I forgot how good it felt to move about, so started prancing around doing a mini-celebration dance in my bathroom! Wednesday would have been proud…

My story ends with an awkward walk into store the next morning to take the two dresses back, I practically wanted to fling them at the counter and run, but of course they were expecting me. The dresses were returned without fuss and I got a full refund, I was even complemented on my handy work!

You’ll be happy to know I boarded the plane that weekend in a nice, safe, predictable pair of capri-pants (hurrah). Oh and I did secure two dresses for the weddings that I have coming up, finding them was surprisingly stress free after all that! 😛

Autumn, Welcome!

A month ago I was weeping at the thought of those long hot summer days disappearing for another year, yearning to reverse the last few months so that I could experience the summer all over again. But this week, things changed. I stepped out to endless scattered orange leaves on the ground and a cold winter chill in the air and I got so excited! Excited for wrapping up warm with big woolly scarves, for Sunday walks with the family in the crisp air and for the countdown to Halloween/Bonfire Night!

So Autumn thank you for coming 🙂 let’s go have some fun together!

Zoella | The Rise of the YouTuber

On Sunday night, while watching my guilty pleasure of the week (the UK X-Factor) I was pleasantly surprised to see an advert for Zoe Sugg’s a.k.a Zoella’s YouTube channel. Up until this point there’s been very distinct boundaries between the two worlds of television and YouTube but it would seem that now more than ever such boundaries are becoming more and more blurred. To see the advert and Zoe’s take on it, watch her vlog from Sunday below:

I first discovered YouTube as a form of entertainment a few years back, when I started to watch such people as CharlieissooollikeMissGlamorazzi and Sprinkle of Glitter. Ever since then I’ve fallen in love with YouTube as a platform, relishing the freedom that it gives me to watch whatever I want, whenever I want. What I think is so interesting about YouTube as a form of social media, is that it’s the first of it’s kind and is accessible to all-in theory anyone of us could become a ‘YouTuber’. That’s why the rise of Zoella as a channel and now as a brand is so fascinating.

After surpassing 6 million followers on her channel, Zoe has recently launched  Zoella Beauty -her own range of bath and beauty products. For anyone who is familiar with Zoe’s videos, the line of beauty products could not be more perfect for the 24-year old, with every piece being something that you could see her using. As if the success of the beauty range wasn’t enough, Zoe is also set to release a fictional novel later on this year.

I guess with no blueprint to follow, it’s up to Zoe and her fellow YouTubers to direct their online careers in whichever direction they choose. It will be interesting to see the longevity of YouTube as a platform, as well as the YouTubers themselves. But if anyone can create a lasting career in this role, my money’s on those YouTubers like Zoe who keep themselves grounded and create relatable content for their audience.

For a selection of such YouTubers, have a look below for some of my favourite beauty guru’s, vloggers and documentary makers, enjoy 🙂 …

Emma Watson | Hermione Would Be Proud!

emma un

Emma Watson is someone I’ve been inspired by for a long time, and on this blog I’ve mostly only ever spoken about my love of her style or her movies. But today I am going to talk about something much more important, the genuine difference Emma is making to how we look at feminism.

In July of this year, Emma was appointed as the UN’s Women Goodwill Ambassador and gave her first address at the UN headquarters last week. Emma launched the UN’s HeForShe campaign at the event, with the actress delivering a thought provoking speech to a roar of applause and a standing ovation. Emma’s speech was full of honesty and personal anecdotes, with the 24-year old speaking of the need for both sexes to come together, to eradicate gender inequality.

I loved how honest Emma was in her speech, with her thoughts echoing many of my own (and I’m sure yours as well) :

“When I was eight, I was confused about being called ‘bossy’ because I wanted to direct the plays that we would put on for our parents. But the boys were not. When at 14, I started to be sexualized by certain elements of the media. When at 15, my girlfriends started dropping out of their beloved sports teams because they didn’t want to appear ‘muscle-y.’ When at 18, my males friends were unable to express their feelings; I decided that I was a feminist.”

To watch a speech that Hermione herself would be proud of, click the link below:

We salute you Emma!

“Fashion reaches all different ethnicities, and the market is so wide now that customers truly aren’t going to be just one skin tone. I’m really happy that I’m working for a company that embraces diversity, especially because Burberry’s a British brand and they realise that being British doesn’t just mean being white.”

Kendall Jenner + NYC

Kendall jenner

One thing that you should know about me is that Keeping Up With the Kardashians is my ultimate guilty pleasure- I know I shouldn’t watch it but I just can’t help myself! 😉

I have two favourite members of the family, Khloe for her complete quick-wit and sassiness and Kendall for her flawless style. 🙂 Speaking of Kendall, the young model has been out and about in New York City recently, turning the NYC sidewalk into her own personal catwalk when heading to casting meetings. I love how sleek and polished Kendall’s everyday style is, with the 18 year old rocking monochrome tones as well as vibrant pops of colour.

The once shy member of the Jenner/Kardashian clan is fast coming into her own, finding herself as well as her signature style seemingly all at the same time. Don’t you agree Khloe? …
