The Power of Three | October 2013

Hey guys!

So here’s my second ‘The Power of Three’ post and if you didn’t catch the first one you can take a peek at what exactly this new series is here.

1.  Favourite Fashion/Beauty Item

cerrutti 1881

One of my favourite 21st birthday gifts was this Cerrutti 1881 perfume that was given to me by my cousin. I have literally worn this perfume non-stop ever since it was given to me, wearing it everyday of the past month! I have never had so many compliments over a perfume as I do when I wear this scent, so thanks cus 🙂

2. Favourite Song

I only heard this song two days ago but it’s safe to say that I’m officially hooked! My brother was playing this song in his car and on hearing it I loved the carefree message of the song’s lyrics. Emeli’s soulful voice is perfect for the track and the accompanying video is great too!

3. Inspiration of the Month

I’ve been watching the Channel 4 documentary series ‘Educating Yorkshire’ over the past few weeks and have grown to love it just as much as I did its predecessor ‘Educating Essex’. Last weeks’s episode featured my inspirational moment of the month, with the episode chronicling a student’s struggle to overcome a stammer in time to take part in his English GCSE. The moment when pupil Musharaf, was able to overcome his stammer and address his classmates on his last day of school brought me to tears. It was truly amazing and emotional to watch the reactions of Musharaf’s fellow students as they watched him overcome his stammer! Be warned this clip may provoke leakage of the eyeballs!

Until next year October! 🙂

Style Diaries | Mid-Length Hair

shorter hair

I’ve just had my hair cut so that instead of being super long and nearly coming up to my waist, it now comes up just below my shoulders, yay!

I have to admit I’m really bad at maintaining a hair style, growing my hair out months at a time. Now that I’ve had my hair cut though I feel like I’ve caught the hair-cutting bug. I’ve always liked the look of a mid-length bob like the one rocked by Marion Cotillard or the shoulder length hair that Emma Watson and Natalie Portman have. These two hairstyles always look so Parisian and polished and who knows if I’m brave enough they might inspire my next trip to the hairdressers!

Sports Luxe | Trends

sports luxe

I’ve been seeing the sports luxe trend around for a while now, with such designers as DKNY leading the way for this look. In terms of how I would wear this trend, I’m often reluctant to embody a trend like this fully as it’s not really reflective of my own style. So I’ll instead try to incorporate small pieces of a trend likes this into my wardrobe, as lets face it who wants to look like they’ve been thrown up on by a Nike store?

The lovely ladies above are all perfect examples of embodying the sports luxe trend without overdoing it. Whether it’s through the addition of a pair of Nike’s, a branded jumper or a fitted leather cap, these ladies have all been able to add a small flavour of the sports luxe trend into their outfits!

Mango | Pick of the Day

mango chiffon.jpg

I used to be such a Zara girl, with the store being my absolute favourite place to shop. On a recent trip out shopping, I had the realization that I’m slowly converting to Mango! The new A/W collection at Mango, is really amazing with loads of cool prints and pieces being featured. This floral chiffon blouse in particular really caught my eye, I love its curved neckline and its sheer sleeves give it that cool seventies vibe!

I’m sorry Zara, it’s not you its me 😉  …

Vogue’s Fashion Night Out 2013| Manchester

Ok guys so here’s my recap of this years Vogue’s Fashion Night Out in Manchester, enjoy…

vfno picture 1

I headed down to Vogue’s Fashion Night Out with my cousin on Thursday to experience a unique evening of late night shopping, celebrity guests and fashioned themed events. Manchester truly embraced the night with many shops, restaurants, bars and galleries keeping their doors open late for the event. On walking  towards the centre of Manchester to our first target of the night (H&M) there was a great atmosphere about the city, with everyone seeming to embrace the event and rocking their most fashion ensembles.

H&M was one of our favourite stops of the night, with the whole store being a hive of activity. The store inside was set up with a photo stage where you could take away a photo memento of the night (which we made sure to do), a DJ booth to get the party going and a team from Tony & Guy providing guests with free makeovers! Sounds fun right? 🙂

The only thing that stole my attention away from all of this was the jewellery section of H&M. I’ve been wanting a statement necklace that could be worn with both casual and dressier outfits for a while now and found this delicate plait necklace that fitted my checklist perfectly, making it my sole purchase of the night!

After walking out of H&M with our purchases in one hand and our goodie bags in another, ( oh I do love a good freebie) we made our way over to Selfridges. If I ever have the desire to live in a store, Selfridges on this very night would be my ideal home 😉 the store inside was literally a combination of my two favourite things, confectionery and fashion! There were stalls of popcorn, crepes and candy floss (which we made our way over to swiftly 🙂 ) and refreshments served on silver platters. A Chanel pop up manicure bar was centre stage, with a fake tanning booth, a temporary tattoo and hair braiding stall also having their place in the store. For entertainment, music was provided by Eliza Doolittle (see below) and Jameela Jamil who were both DJ-ing on the night.

After Selfridges we made our way over to Mango, Debenhams and Marks & Spencer  picking up a goodie bag from the Boohoo bus on the way! Our last stop of the night was Harvey Nichols which was beautifully decorated  inside! One of the quirkiest events taking place for VFNO was happening in the store, with guests having the opportunity to have their VFNO t-shirts customized by one of 10 designers including Jonathan Saunders and Sophia Webster!

Once we left Harvey Nichols the night was drawing in and as we were already shopped out we decided to head home. The journey home was filled with reminiscent memories of our very first Vogue’s Fashion Night Out and the hope to attend again one day!

Quick Update |Vogue’s Fashion’s Night Out 2013

Hello guys 🙂

Just giving you a quick update to tell you that I will be heading down to Vogue’s Fashion Night Out this Thursday in Manchester!

Fashion’s Night Out was first started in New York city by Anna Wintour in 2009 as a way to lift people’s spirits after the recession and give a boost to the retail economy. Over the years the night has taken place in cities all over the world with Manchester hosting it for the first time this Thursday. More than 160 shops, restaurants, bars and galleries have signed up for the night and I cannot wait to see what they have to offer!

Keep your eyes peeled for a follow up post!

Zara + Mango + Oasis| Knitwear

zara knitwear

Zara-£12.99                                                                  Zara-£17.99

Mango-£34.99                                                 Oasis-£45

Snuggling up in a giant knit is one of my favourite things about the autumn/winter months and seeing all of the fab knitwear designs that are around at the moment has made me realise how much I’ve missed it! The two types of knitwear that I tend to gravitate  towards the most are both bold, layering pieces and cable-knit or patterned jumpers.

Zara as can be seen from the two items above is the perfect place to find those slouchy, layering pieces that come in a variety of colours. This jumper and cardigan duo by Zara are both bold enough to stand alone  but will also look great layered up with some basics. A chunky cable-knit is a classic piece for winter and this Oasis jumper pairs the timeless knit design with this season’s latest colour crush, dusty pink ( a great combo, right? 🙂 ). For an alternative to the cable-knit design,  Mango has a really pretty zigzag patterned jumper that will look fab with just about anything!

Knits have always been a go-to item for the autumn/winter months, so why not embrace the winter chill by wrapping up in one of your favourite!

Have a great week guys! 🙂
